If you’re looking for a beautiful scenic drive to McLaren Vale & Fleurieu Coast, a charming way to kick it off is visiting the gorgeous village of Clarendon.

Nestled in a picture-perfect gully alongside the majestic Onkaparinga River, this historic town is steeped in colonial architecture. The meticulously maintained buildings throughout the town await discovery, with their history unearthed by the Clarendon heritage trail. Take your time and meander about this leafy English-style village while keeping your eyes peeled for the original school, Oddfellows Hall, police station and courthouse, and general store. There are also a few local businesses and galleries worth checking out too including the gorgeous Emprades Vintage and Design. If you happen to bump into Des at Emprades, his stories and history will only leave you wanting more. You will see Clarendon in a new light!

Lovers of all things pastry should make a beeline to the popular and divinely good Clarendon Bakery - it will make your mouth water and you won't leave without a few items to eat later! Worth a trip for their pasties and doughnuts alone, the acclaimed bakery is your first stop before settling in and enjoying the ambience of the Clarendon Bicentennial Park opposite or the Riverbend Park on the banks of the peaceful Onkaparinga River nearby. If you want to know what the locals love, just ask!

Looking for something a little more substantial, enjoy a meal and the great hospitality of the historic Royal Oak Hotel relaxing on the deck, taking in the views of the region.

This is only the start of what is waiting to be discovered… more heritage…. more quaint townships…. more food and wine…. and meeting more characters of the region.
