Gabby's Cottage B&B

Before this exquisite 20 acre property existed in its current state, it was part of many different larger parcels of land. Originally part of Section 813 Hundred of Kuitpo, in the district at that time known as Eyre Flat, went for public auction at the Quarterly Government Sale of Crown Land held at the Adelaide Court house on the 16th May 1850. At 11.00am on Thursday lot 4755, section 813, Hundred of Kuitpo sold to early settler William Stillwell who was a migrant from Hampshire. It is said that the land at the time was 80 acres which sold for 80 pounds.

The property was soon named Rose Farm by William, presumably because of the wild roses found dotted around the property. On this parcel of land William was postmaster and storekeeper at the Bakers Gully Post Office up until 1878 after which the building was used as a butcher shop.

In later years the property was used as a fruit orchard. Some of these earlier plantings remain in the orchard adjacent the cottage and around the property.

By 2010 the property and cottage were in a state of disrepair and deemed uninhabitable. The property was listed for sale in 2013 with an immense lack of interest. In 2014 the property finally sold to Nick and Leah, both who could see the potential of the cottage and property. The couple spent the next 10 years transforming the cottage into the beautiful property you can enjoy today.
